MIDWEST SPRING CLASSIC Day 2

Ypsilanti, MI: Day 2 of the LBI Midwest Spring Classic brought more chills and thrills to those in attendance.  There were a number of notable battles between some of the finest teams in the country.  Some of them went down to the wire and others went to overtime.  Some of the best players showcased their skills for all to see.   The vets showed off their improvement from last season and a number of up-and-coming young players showed why they belong among the elite.   The day was filled with some of the best shot making, shot blocking, rebounding, ball-handling action seen anywhere.   It was really entertaining to watch these young ladies put on a show for the fans and college coaches.  The following players had noteworthy performances during Day 2:

Prime Performers:

Chloe Welch- 2018- SG – Boulder Rockies (Blue Star)
In the Rockies first game of the day against CCE, Chloe took on a scoring role.  The defense was geared toward stopping 6’4” Twin Tower sisters Camilla and Kira Emsbo thus opening up driving lanes for Chloe to exploit.  She did just that by scoring 16 points, which led the team.  In the second half the defense tightened up on her and she became a floor general as she set her teammates up for easy scores.

Jordan Horston- 2019 – PG – All Ohio Black EYBL
At 6’1”, Jordan used her superior size at the PG spot to dominate the gameIn Saturday’s win over Bolingbrook Panthers 17U she controlled the tempo on offense with her ability to get to the basket and threw several “no look” passes that resulted in layups.  Jordan filled the stat sheet for her team by contributing several rebounds, blocked shots and steals with her offensive output.

Nakia Sigman – 2021 – PG – Toledo Thunder 15U Wolfe
This rising star was the glue that held her team together in a win against the West Michigan Drive.  Her composure and ball handling acumen allowed her to make great decisions against the Drive’s pressure defense.  She scored the ball when necessary and often made the proper pass.  She led the Thunder with 13 points.

McKenna Walker – 2018 – SG – Michigan Select
Walker and her teammates rode the three point shot to victory over the Michigan Mystics.  McKenna drained 4 of her team’s 11 three pointers and finished with a game high 14 points.

Hailey Jordan– 2019 – SF – All Ohio Lavender – 10th Grade EYBL
Hailey had an exceptional game for All Ohio.  She scored early and often by putting back several offensive rebounds for scores and converting layups in transition.  Her mid range jumper was another weapon used to lead her team to victory.  She finished with 18 points to lead all scorers.

Aysia Yokely- SG 2023 Michigan Crossover 6th Grade
Yokely is only in the 6th grade, but plays well beyond her years. Playing up a few age divisions, the 5’3” guard handles the pressure very well. She adjusted seamlessly in transition and was able to penetrate the gaps, create her own shot, and find open teammates. Yokely knocked down open triples and wasn’t afraid of bigger opponents.

Dezmonea Antwine - SG 2019 Boulder Rockies (Blue Star)
Antwine is a tough ball defender. She takes pride in her job on the defensive end and is relentless in her pursuit of the ball. Throughout the game against Michigan Mystics-Rob, she applied fierce pressure causing her opponents to commit several turnovers. She is quick on her feet and made the important plays on both ends of the floor. Antwine is a leader and definitely helped her squad pull out the victory.

Ariel Cummings- PF 2018 Toledo Thunder Black
Cummings is a physical post player who is very strong! In a game versus 1Nation, she sized up her opponents and scored the ball with ease. She rebounded the ball well and protected the rim racking up a few impressive blocked shots.

Mya Hicks- PF 2022 Common Bond 7th Grade
Hicks is a beast as she penetrates gaps. She was very aggressive getting to the rim to create contact and convert “and ones”. She’s young but plays the game with maturity and she’s learning the more day by day.

Mickayla Perdue – PG 2021 All Ohio- Gattis
Perdue played very well against a good Michigan Crossover 14U squad. She got to the bucket whenever she needed to score for her squad and did everything in her power to win. She knocked down three triples and finished the game with 15 points and 5 assists. All Ohio was missing three starters from the lineup, and Perdue stepped up and contributed big time! She found her teammates in the open floor and competed the whole game.
