Deja Church SurgesThe Warriors To A Class Semifinals Apperance

Southfield A&T 52 Ann Arbor Huron 38

Deja Church 5’10" G Southfield A&T HS 2017
Big Ten bound Deja Church (Michigan), showed why she is one of the best players in the state.  In a game that started out as an intense defensive battle, Church began to assert herself by putting her team on her back and carrying them to the Breslin.  Church finished with a 20 point, 10 rebound double-double which were game highs in both categories.  She was clearly the best player on the floor and the difference in the game.

Alexis Johnson 5’11" F/C Southfield A&T HS 2019
In tonight’s game Alexis was limited in the first half due to picking up two early fouls.  Statistically, she didn’t produce her usual numbers (9 pts, 6 rebs), but her impact on the game was felt late in the game as Alexis grabbed three key fourth quarter rebounds when Huron tried to make a run.

Cheyenne McEvans 5’8" WG Southfield A&T HS 2020
The more I watch this freshman guard, the more I am impressed with what she brings to her team.  Once again, she played a key role in her team’s win.  On the defensive end, she was aggressive and on the floor for loose balls.  Offensively (9pts) she started a little slow, but made two timely baskets in the second half and helped seal the deal with four straight free throw makes (5-6 overall) late in the fourth quarter.

Emily Marsh 6’0 F Ann Arbor Huron HS 2017
Southfield threatened to run away with this game in the first half, but Bradley commit Emily Marsh kept her team in the game until the end.  She led Huron with 15 points and 8 rebounds.  All of her points and rebounds came at critical times for Huron early and late in the game.  She did all she could, but the Warriors benefitted from having a home court advantage, and pulled away for the win.

Eden Johnson 6’1" F/C Ann Arbor Huron HS 2019
Eden provided a spark off the bench for Huron.  She scored 10 points on 4-6 shooting from the floor and grabbed 5 rebounds.  Huron pulled within one point of Southfield in the first half behind two rebounds and a coast-to-coast drive and finish by Johnson.  Her energy and production gave the River Rats a boost when their offense became stagnant.  With two more years remaining for this young lady, Huron can expect to return for another deep run into the tournament next season.
