Detroit Mumford 68 East English 45

Detroit, MI: The first game of the night was between Detroit Mumford and East English High. Mumford jumped out to a 10-0 lead to start the game. East English eventually got their offense going lead by sophomore guard Jayla Smith, who was able to knock down a couple three’s. That wouldn’t be enough as Mumford began to extend the lead taking advantage of the inside presence of Zamaria Polk who scored 10 of her 12 points in the 2nd quarter. In the 2nd half, Mumford held on to a 20 point lead to go on and eventually win the semifinal game 68-45. They will play for the PSL Championship on Saturday at Detroit Mercy.

Game number two was between Detroit King and host school Detroit Renaissance. Renaissance hit the first points of the game with a layup; that was their final lead of the game as King went on a 8-0 run and never fall behind again. King’s smothering defense would put Renaissance down as many as 16 points in the 1st half. With 2:30 left in the half, the score was 31-15 Crusaders.   Renaissance didn’t give up and fought back to lessen the gap just before the end of the half, making the score 13-22. Lots of turnovers in the 3rd quarter by King allowed Renaissance to get within striking distance at the end of the 3rd quarter. King was able to hold on to the lead in the 4th quarter and go on to win the game 56-47. Detroit King will take on Detroit Mumford Saturday at 5pm for the PSL Championship.
