Game 4 of the 4th Annual Icebreaker Classic was just as intense and exciting as the three before it. The Gators of Arbor Prep faced off against the Muskegon Mona Shore Sailors. The Sailors looked to keep their streak going, coming off a big win against Grand Rapids Catholic Central.

The Gators jumped out to a quick double digit lead in the first quarter. Mona Shores could not get clicking on offense, with their top two players, Walker and Winston failing to put points in the book. This didn’t last long. The Sailors took over in the 2nd quarter, dishing out to Arbor Prep exactly what was given to them. They went into halftime leading by 2. The Mona Shores comeback would only be temporary.

In the third quarter, led by fierce inside play from Cydney Williams and Adrienne Anderson getting to the basket, Arbor Prep showed great defensive discipline and caused multiple turnovers and uneasy shots. However that aggressive play put the Gators in early foul trouble and Mona Shores spent almost the entire second half in the bonus. Foul trouble didn’t cause Arbor Prep to back down. They kept the heat on high, trapping whenever possible and not allowing the explosive Alyza Winston get to the rim. Arbor Prep stood their ground and came out with a big win.

Leading scorers: Mona Shores: Walker 12, Winston 10, Wehler 7; Arbor Prep: Anderson 15, Williams 14, Knight and M. Petree 7

Game and Team Highlights

Mona Shores:

  • Consistency will be the factor that either makes or breaks the Sailors. They up and down scoring cannot continue or they will be in for a long season.
  • Someone has to step up and be a leader for Mona Shores. Not just in scoring, but a vocal presence on the court as well.

Arbor Prep:

  • The Gators put on a defensive exhibition. Even during small break downs, they always found a way to recover.
  • Arbor Prep does a good job of moving the ball around and trusting each other. They don’t care who scores, just as long as they score.
