In game two of the 4th Annual Icebreaker Bay City John Glenn faced off against Blissfield. The Class B runner-ups loss some key pieces due to graduation and many were looking forward to seeing what adjustments Coach Cory Snider put together for the Bobcats.

In the first quarter Blissfield game out the gate fired up and ready to battle. The Royals fought hard in the paint and dominated the boards. They would hold a small 4 point lead going into the second quarter. John Glenn would finally get rid of their jitters and put together a run that turned the tables and had them in the lead. Senior point guard Kalle Martinez would put the Bobcats on her back and go on a 6-0 run all by herself. No one could seem to stay in front of her. At the end of the half, John Glenn led 26-24.

The start of the second half would be all John Glenn. Blissfield struggled to put points on the board and couldn’t catch a break on defense. In the last minute of the third quarter, the Royals dug their way out of the hole and tied the game up at 33. Martinez would get a nice floater at the buzzer, and give the Bobcats a one point lead to start the final quarter. The two squads literally went to war, bumping, diving for every loose ball and doing all they could to finish strong. Blissfield attempted to start fouling with 1:30 left In the end, the Bobcats continued to dominate, the Royals struggled to score, and John Glenn walked away victorious.

Leading scorers for the night: Blissfield: Wyman 16, Henning 10, Andrix 5; BC John Glenn: Martinez 30, Payne 12

Game and Team Highlights

Blissfield:

  • The Royals started out very strong but allowed their flame to go dim. They are a hard working team and if they can stay mentally tough should have a great season.
  • The duo of Wyman and Henning makes Blissfield a tough inside out team. These two complement each other very well.

BC John Glenn:

  • John Glenn looked like a totally different team compared to the team we saw at the Mid-Michigan Mega scrimmage. They move the ball well and never gave up.
  • Kalle Martinez was sensational! She worked hard for every point she got and did a good job of getting her teammates involved.
