Daija Tyson Showed Us Why She's The Best PG In The Michigan Class Of 2020

Ann Arbor, MI: This past Sunday Lady Ballers Insider stopped by Ann Arbor Skyline HS for the 1st Annual Test of the Best Showcase hosted by The Plug Scouting Service. The showcase featured some very competitive drills and 5 on 5 games that kept the players in attendance very active throughout the day. Here’s a look at a few players that stood out and will have a chance to play and be successful at the next level.

Jaida Hampton 2018 5’10” Wing East Lansing HS (MI)
Hampton is known for her off the chart athleticism, which was definitely on display this past Sunday afternoon.  However, the talented wing had her jumper falling, as she made several triples, and made her very difficult to defend. She plays with a high motor on both ends of the floor.  Hampton plays with intensity and is a lockdown defender and rebounder.

Maxine Moore 2018 6’ Post Country Day HS (MI)
Max is more than just a back to the basket post presence. Moore used her strong frame to attack the basket off of the dribble where she made plenty of strong finishes. She definitely has improved her overall skill set, shooting well from the perimeter including several nice 3 pointers and handling the ball down the court creating and finishing the break.  We should see her production go up during the 2016-17 basketball season.

Lasha Petree 2018 5’11” Wing Arbor Prep HS (MI)
Petree has a reputation of being a very good shooter, well nothing changed on Sunday afternoon as the long lengthy wing shot it very well from beyond the arc. She showed a solid handle in the open floor that led to some very nice finishes.

Graysen Cockerham 2018 5’9” Wing Hartland HS (MI)
A coaches dream; she does all the things that you would ask your player to do. Graysen was tough as she battled for loose balls and rebounds throughout the day. She has deep three-point range where she shot it at a high rate. Cockerham finished second in the 3 Point contest.

Asairia Turman 2019 5’10” Post Ann Arbor Pioneer HS (MI)Turman is a big strong post that knows how to use her strength to finish at the rim when she receives it in the post. She was great at sealing her defender, displayed good footwork and also showed that she is very comfortable playing away from the basket. Look for her to   be Ann Arbor Pioneer’s primary scorer this upcoming season.

Mahrianna Petree 2019 5’9” Point Guard Arbor Prep HS (MI)
Petree is a long lanky point that knows how to create offense. She can shoot the ball out to three point range, but is at her best when she’s attacking off the dribble where she has the ability to knock the pull-up jumper. Was impressed with how she rebounded the ball creating many easy transition points for her teammates. She is one to watch!

Johnnia Steele 2019 6’1” Post Redford Union HS (MI)
She has a chance to be a dominate defender. Steele did a good job of blocking shots and rebounding. She’s very athletic and has good size that allows her to get offensive rebounds for easy put backs. Once her offensive skill catches up to her defensive skill, she will be a matchup nightmare.

Daija Tyson 2020 5’5” Point Guard Detroit Edison HS (MI)
A very good floor leader that is cat quick. Tyson did a great job of handling and distributing the ball and was fantastic in the open floor as she finished at the rim with a couple of nice floaters.  Deja made her defender pay when they backed off of her by knocking down multiple three-point shots. She’s the best point guard in the state of Michigan 2020 class and will be in the discussion to be the No. 1 rated player.

Gabrielle Elliott 2020 5’11” Wing Detroit Edison HS (MI)
Elliott’s ability to rebound, start the break and make the proper decision in the open floor makes her a threat to make something happen every time she touches the ball. She did a great job of the running the court in transition making herself available for easy baskets as she finished through contact with either hand.  Another great player in the Michigan 2020 class who will also be in discussion as being the No.1 rated player.

Mya Petticord 2022 5’7” Wing Guard Detroit Edison MS (MI)
Mya is very fundamentally sound and doesn’t make many mistakes on the court. She was probably the best shooter at the camp. Mya has a smooth stroke and a quick release that allows her to be effective when shooting off the dribble. This kid stood out playing with high school age players and I can only imagine what she will do against kids her own age. Petticord is a name that you will definitely be hearing about.
