Deep talent pool at Elite 48 Carolina

Charlotte, NC - There was a lot of talented players representing the southeast at the Elite 48 Carolina. Our staff writer Oscar Brooks left the event very impressed by the level of play. Here are some of the players that he highlighted in his evaluations.

Shareka Mcneill (NC) 2017 5’6 PG Harding University
Quicksilver guard who loves to orchestrate…capable of creating for herself as well as others….inconsistent outside stroke but plusses far outweigh any minuses.

Gabby Smith (NC) 2018 6’ PF Hickory Ridge
Prototypical “4”….Strong and athletic….Nice touch out to 15 feet….runs floor well and doesn’t shy from contact.

Jiera Shears (NC) 2018 5’6 PG Hickory Ridge
Always thinking pass first…Not a lot of flash to her game but as well rounded as any guard in the building.

Anika Simpson (SC) 2017 5’6 G Mauldin HS
Very active ball handler…excelled at decision making in transition and open floor situations….Jump shot mechanics need some work.

Mahogany Matthews (NC) 6’3 P Hoke County
Active on offensive and defensive glass….when her offense catches up to her rebounding and defense she will be a force to reckon with….can easily add 15 pounds of muscle without impacting her mobility.

Morgan Walker (SC) 5’11 PF Hammond School
One of the strongest players at The Elite 48.Understands her role is down in the paint…BANGER!!! …Good positional rebounder…Moves well laterally and capable of stepping out and guarding smaller players in space.

Jessyka Leak (NC) 2018 5’5 G Concord 1st Assembly
Demontrated a knack for all the intangibles---the extra pick, the extra pass, moving without the ball….. Solid long range shooter…finishes well in transition.

Madisen Smith (SC) 2018 5’5 PG Greenville
Makes all the right decisions on the fly….can hurt opponents with her ability to get to the hole in traffic or her suffocating defensive presence.

Shamani Stafford (NC) 2018 5’6 G Concord 1st Assembly
Explosive offensive player who can glide through the smallest opening to score or use her lightning quick release to consistently drill daggers beyond the arc…exceptional defender-quick hands, quick feet and exceptional defensive anticipation.

Shameka Mcneill (NC) 2017 G Harding University
Quick & extremely active…Leader with the ball out front on offense…ALWAYS looking to push the pace…Inconsistent perimeter shooter but excellent finisher in transition.

Meghan Flowers (NC) 5’11 WF Butler
A “tweener” who could help at the SF spot if her face –up game improves or an undersized 4 at the next level who uses her athleticism to get an advantage. Never takes a play off.

Macee Tamminem (SC) 2017 5’7 G Hilton Head Christian
Pure jump shooter with phenomenal range…Deadly accurate from both corners…Can shoot with the best of them but her ability to demonstrate her versatility in all aspects of the game will determine at what level.

Sierra Votaw (NC) 2017 6’3 WF Harrells Christian
Tall and rangy athlete…Puts ball on floor very well for a player her size…Raw with a good deal of upside if she can learn to finish better around the rim and get stronger.

Kelsie Ruff (NC) 2017 5’8 PG Hopewell
Solid, aggressive defender…Complete skill set…Quickness and ball-handling are her strong suits…Court vision and willingness to share basketball should benefit her at the next level.

Mariana Ballard (SC) 2020 5’3 PG Clover
Deceptive quickness and tenacity…one to watch for the future… constantly disrupted opposing fastbreaks with steals and deflections in the open floor….Offensively adept at safeguarding the ball and making the right play….tough to contain one-on-one.

Danae McNeal (SC) 2019 5’10 G Swansea
Potential star here…with maturity she could evolve into something special…a slasher with a still developing outside touch….made some plays on both ends of the floor with a high degree of “wow factor”.

Loyal McQueen (SC) 2020 5’7 PG Wilson
One of the best transition players this weekend…her crossover move and ability to get to the basket in traffic are uncanny.

Andi Levitz (NC) 2020 5’6 PG Providence Day
Heady basketball player who consistently displayed a high hoop I.Q…Minimized turnovers and setup teammates for easy buckets against faster, stronger opponents.

Anna Coley (NC) 2020 5’7 G Cox Mill
A little pep in her step all day…Crafty in traffic against more imposing opposition ….Very composed out front…….definitely worthy of a closer look.

Sarah Knafeiz (NC) 2020 6’1 F Providence HS
Showed glimpses of what she is capable of…..Not overly physical but showed a solid understanding in all areas of the game…raw player with the build and athleticism to climb up the recruiting ladder if she is willing to make a commitment to her craft.

Aysha Scott (SC) 2019 5’4 G South Aiken
Scrappy undersized guard….Offensive minded 2G with the build of an undersized 1G…….don’t let her stature fool you, this is one fearless young lady……quick feet, quick hands.

Nina Clark (NC) 2020 5’7 G Cuthbertson
Good court vision…Jet fast and extremely active…..If she gets stronger with her off hand she could have a bright future ahead.

Kathryne Williams (SC) 2020 5’3 G York Prep
Heady baller…deceptive strength and quickness…Outstanding spot-up shooter.

Lillian Anderson (NC) 2020 5’11 F Cuthberton
Strong athlete…superb rebounder off defensive glass…Good shooter who struggled at times playing without the ball… defended her position well.

Jermany Mapp (SC) 2020 5’11 G York Prep
Extremely active on glass and defensive end…Very athletic but still developing things like court awareness and flow…When her offense catches up she has potential star written all over her…Long. Lean and runs like a deer.

Ashlyn Watkins (SC) 2022 6’2 P Blythewood MS
Size a big plus…rangy, athletic ….a pure defensive terror….Her ability to close out and block shots from the weak side belies her age…if the rest of her game speeds up and matches her defensive development she could become a household name.

Kennedy Calhoun (NC) 2021 5’3 PG Hickory Ridge MS
Very quick point that’s always a couple steps ahead. Excelled attacking the paint, did a great job creating opportunities for herself and her teammates.

Reigan Richardson (NC) 2021 5’11 G Hickory Ridge MS
Tall, agile…..Moves well…Exceptional court vision and ball handling skills…Solid long range shooter.

Madelynn Dillinger (NC) 2021 5’10 F Cuthbertson
One to watch….Excellent size and build…..Consistently displayed good understanding of game…refused to be out-worked; good shooter and passer….equally adept at defending down low or from the wing.

Emily Cunningham (NC) 2021 5’6 G Carmel Christian
Fundamentally sound…Nice shooting touch/decent range…Not fastest or strongest guard on the floor but consistently made key plays on both ends.
