Chicago, ILDuring the NIKE Tournament of Champions, many teams were there representing Michigan and showing that we do have tons of talent. Teams like the Michigan Sting, Motor City Thunder, Michigan Mystics, Michigan Finest and many more, competed against some of the best talent in the country and were able to hold their own. For your hard work and dedication as players and coaches, LBI would like to say THANK YOU for representing the “Mitten State” well and making us proud. Here are just a few of the young Michiganders that left their mark in Chicago this weekend.

#1 Kennedy Johnson  2018  5’8”  Guard  Michigan Sting-Dumas
Johnson brought the energy and spark her team needed off the bench to help them fight back from a double digit deficit. She has a very long frame and was able to play the lanes and create steals and turnovers. She also attacked the basket aggressively, finishing at the rim with and without contact. Kennedy was able to play both the point guard and off guard positions.

#4 Alexis Miller  2018  5’7”  Point Guard  Michigan Sting-Dumas
With a never say never attitude, Alexis did everything a great point guard does when her team is facing adversity. She was responsible for 10 consecutive points, whether directly or indirectly, in a one point come from behind victory. She played great defense, getting 3 back to back steals before the other team could get the ball past half court. Alexis is a verbal leader and did not shy away from taking over the game when she needed to.

#11 Jasmine Clerkley  2020  6’0”  Post  CCE 2020
To see a young player dedicated to crashing the boards, running the court and hitting layups is very refreshing. Clerkley did all of these things consistently. There was one point in the game where I had tallied 11 rebounds and 8 points from put back lay-ups and this was before the first half ended. Jasmine is the definition of a work horse and I look forward to watching her game grow to great heights.

#23 Kate McArthur  2019  5’8”  Guard  1 Nation Elite
McArthur was the “tough guy” for 1 Nation, using her solid frame to bully her way to the basket and also stopping opponents from getting there. She was often battling for loose balls and making body sacrificing plays to help her team go 5-0 this weekend. When Kate wasn’t showing her toughness, she was standing behind the three point line, knocking down shot after shot.

#1 Michaela Glenn  2018  5’6”  Guard  Motor City Thunder
Speed and quickness is what Glenn gave her team this weekend. She plays great one on one, on the ball defense; always able to stay one step ahead of her opponent. Michaela’s quickness was also useful during transition plays due to her beating everyone down the court. She has nice court vision and was able to get the ball to open teammates.

#8 Chloe Idoni  2019  5’11”  Post  Michigan Mystics-Black
Idoni has a strong frame that allows her to be physical in the paint. She was able to score facing the basket and with her back to the rim. Chloe is a battler and it shows with her high rebounding numbers. She causes tons of problems on defense, altering shots and keeping teams from getting second chance scoring opportunities.

#4 Moira Joiner  2019  5’9”  Point Guard  Michigan Select 15u
Attacking the paint, rebounding and playing hardnose defense are all things that Joiner did throughout the entire weekend. She has good ball handling skills and did a good job of creating shots for herself. She was very active on the defensive end and showed her passing abilities. She put both to use as she got steals and found the open man in transition.

#15 Shine Strickland-Gills  2019  6’0”  Post  Michigan Select 15u
One of the key factors in determining a post player’s value is the rebounding differential when they are in the game vs. when they are not. Shine showed that her value is very high. On both ends of the court, she consistently snatched down rebounds in and out of her area. She moves great without the ball, making herself available for wide open layups. Strickland is expanding her game, putting the ball on the floor during transition and on the wing.

#14 Molly Davis  2019  5’7”  Point Guard  Michigan Select 15u
Davis is a point guard with confidence and swag. She has top-notch ball handling abilities and made it very difficult for opponents to stay in front of her. She drove to the paint at will, often finishing strong with and without contact. Molly has great court vision and dropped several dimes to her teammates, who sometimes didn’t even realize they were open. When she wasn’t doing all of these things, she was knocking down open shots from long range.
