The Premier Memorial Day Event In The Country Was The All Ohio Midwest Showdown

Cincinnati, OH – Day 2 and 3 of the Midwest Showdown was filled with overtime thrillers, nail bitters and great players making great plays. Our hands were full but we still spotted the best of the best; showstoppers and game changers in a room full of dynamic lady ballers. Below are the names of few of them. Congratulations to all of the division champions.

Elite Division: Michigan Crossover EYBL

11th Grade: West Virginia Thunder-Gold

10th Grade: All Ohio 15u (Jordan) EYBL

9th Grade: Cincinnati Heat Premier-Sanders

8th Grade: MI Crossover 13u

2017

Samantha Jenkins (#4)  5’9”  Wing Guard  Team Ohio
Samantha shot well in multiple games, hitting long range threes as well as putting in midrange work. She was a huge threat in transition because of her speed with and without the ball. She is good at playing the passing lanes on defense, causing the offense to catch the ball in uncomfortable positions.

Jaylyn Sherrod (#4)  5’6”  Point Guard  All Alabama
Jaylyn is a true floor general with good court vision and decision making skills. She has very efficient mid-range game and is great with the pull-up. Sherrod is a strong defender and often defended the opposing team’s best ball handler.

Seygan Robins (#4)  5’8”  Point Guard  Kentucky Premier EYBL
Robins is a point guard with a lot of swag and heart. She plays hard on every play and her team fed off of energy. She makes great moves to the rim, and knows when to finish the shot or drop a dime to one of her teammates. She is a tough defender and caused many turnovers and forced shots.

Braxtin Miller (#14)  5’10”  Wing Guard  Cincinnati Angels
Miller did a great job of using her height and strong frame to overpower most of the guards defending her. She is a true combo guard that is just as comfortable running her team’s offense from the point or driving from the wing, finishing with a stop and pop. Braxtin is a smart player on both ends and a solid defender.

Destiny Harden (#34)  6’0”  Wing Guard Mac Irvin Fire-Godfather
Destiny showed that she is post player that plays well from the block and from 12-15 feet from the basket. She had good foot work with her back to the rim and also was able to knock down the pull-up over defenders. She plays hard and does a good job of crashing the boards for rebounds.

2018

Jahri Smith (#21)  6’2”  Post  Bolingbrook Panthers
Smith is an athletic shot blocker that was an undeniable presence on the court. She can jump out of the gym which she displayed when she was crashing the boards rebounding. She is strong offensively and plays very aggressive around the rim.

Bre Black (#25)  5’7”  Point Guard  Mac Irvin Fire-Godfather
Bre was her team’s heart and soul this weekend. Although her team started off a little rocky, her energy and relentless play helped them overcome a 14 point deficit and win a tough game against the WPA Bruins-Zeise. Black is quick and does a great job of getting in the paint for easy shots. Her on the ball defense is high level and consistent.

2019

Sammie Puisis (#23)  6’1”  Wing Forward  Cincinnati Heat Premier
Puisis looks like she has the makings of a big time player in the coming years. Sammie has good size at 6’1” and has a very quick release. She was absolutely brilliant at times in a win on Saturday over All Alabama. It didn’t matter if the defense was right on or her closing out strong, she was hitting nothing but net. Puisis releases high and fast and doesn’t need a lot of room to get off her shot.

Maliya Perry (#24)  5’11”  Wing Guard  All Ohio 15u (Jordan) EYBL
Perry was very impressive this weekend. She is a high volume scorer that made some very tough shots with contact. She is a confident player and it shows in her game. She has strong ball handling skills and her potential is remarkable. Look for her to make noise for the next several years.

Corinne Thomas (#22)  5’8”  Wing Guard  Dayton Metro-Bush
Thomas was extremely comfortable handling the ball and shooting it from the perimeter. Corinne doesn’t mind getting in the mix inside to rebound on both ends of the court. She’s athletic enough to create her own shot off the dribble and strong enough to finish at the rim and she did this on several occasions throughout the weekend.

Shaila Beeler (#5) 5'7" Point Guard Lady Gym Rats Gold
Beeler is a very explosive pass first guard that makes great decisions. Her quick first step gives her an advantage with the ball in her hands. Defensively she is a lock down defender with a nose for the ball, constantly in the passing lane creating havoc.

2021

Tamia Ware (#6) 5'5" Point Guard Mac Irvin Fire
Ware is a high energy point guard that runs the show on a very good younger team. She has a good handle, court vision, attacks the paint and showed off a sweet stroke from behind the arc. Look for her to become the next high level point that comes from the Fire camp.
