The Premier Memorial Day Event In The Country Was The All Ohio Midwest Showdown

Cincinnati, OH – The premier Memorial Day event in the country was the All Ohio Midwest Showdown. This monster event kicked off on Saturday in Cincinnati, OH with pool play and ended on Memorial Day with championship play. Once again the tournament featured some of the nation’s best teams and top college prospects. Here’s a look at some of the Day 1 standouts.

2017

Taylor Pearson (#20) 5’10”  Wing  Team Ohio
Taylor is an elite level scorer with an aggressive skill set. After a crafty move to get past her defender she then penetrates with force. She showed range from beyond the arc and the ability to defend well inside and out. Her great court vision helped her set teammates up to score. Taylor’s team was sure to get the ball to her in crucial moments of the game.

Jaylen Murray (#31)  6’1”  Wing  SC76ers-Black
Murray had a huge game in the 76ers win vs Gym Rats-Silver EYBL. She was very active on both ends, showing that she could defend multiple positions and her offensive game was working inside out. She knocked down mid-range jumpers and was deadly in transition.

Madison Washington (#35) 5’8”  Point Guard  UTLB/HG Elite
Washington put on a display of quickness, speed and skill on Saturday. She has very strong ball handles and had very few turnovers. She beat opponents off the dribble with ease and got the bucket at will. Madison moves well without the ball and does not need the ball in her hands to run her team’s offense. She was a great floor leader.

Brittany Welch (#4)  6’0”  Wing  Sky Diggs Elite-Huffman
Working hard on both ends of the court, Welch made her presence felt every minute that she played. She handles the ball well and was comfortable playing the point position at times. She can drive from the wing and showed some solid post moves with her back to the basket. Brittany doesn’t mind doing dirty work or battling for rebounds.

2018

Elizabeth Dixon (#25)  6’4”  Post  Tennesee Flight EYBL
Dixon is a very active forward who rarely stops moving and working. Athletic with solid foot speed, she attacked from around 12-15’ and finished around the rim. She runs the floor well, and uses her long wingspan to rebound and block shots at a high rate. Elizabeth made great moves facing the basket and finished with contact.

Jasmine Hayes (#2)  5’8”  Point Guard  Cincinnati Angels
Jasmine was a solid ball handler on Saturday for the Angels. She pushed the ball in transition and made plays. She showed a couple quick burst in the open court, getting to the rim and finishing strong.

Aaliyah Patty (#23)  6’3”  Post  Illinois Lady Lightning Platinum
Patty help lead the Lady Lightning to an impressive comeback win over the Cincinnati Angels in pool play on Saturday afternoon. She was big on the glass on both ends and finished well around the rim with the bulk of her scoring coming off offensive put-backs.

Arieal Scott (#3)  5’10  Guard  Gym Rats-Silver EYBL
Big time shooter with range beyond the arc, Scott knocked down multiple huge shots to keep her team in striking distance during their 1st game of the day. She showed a good handle that allowed her to create in one on one situations.

Blair Green (#32)  6’1”  Wing  Kentucky Premier EYBL
Green showed a very impressive inside and outside game on both ends of the court. She is a solid shooter that can knock down her shot from anywhere on the court. She is quick enough to defend the perimeter but long and strong enough to defend the post as well. She also plays the lanes well for easy steals and transition layups.

2019

Jordan Horston (#22) 6’0”  Guard  All Ohio-10th
Thank the basketball gods for sending Jordan Horston to us. Jordan is a player who just does everything right. She was able to penetrate the lane to create for herself and others. She displayed a very efficient mid-range game and facilitated the offense with and without the ball in her hand. Rebounding came easy for Jordan because of her long athletic 6’ 0” frame.

Maoria Davenport (#15) 6’4”  Post  All Alabama
Was very impressed with this kid... Displayed that she can score in multiple ways in multiple games. Davenport faced-up defenders and scored from 12-15’ and also finished above the rim in transition and post ups. Isn’t skilled enough to play primarily on the wing but showed flashes that she’s a threat wherever she touches ball at on the court.

Nakeya Hughes (#15)  6’0”  Post  Gym Rats-Red
Nakeya was impressive on both ends of the floor. She kept her rebounds high, found her outlets and ran the court in transition. Defensively she was good in rotation and was able to defend the screen and roll. Nakeya made moves from 15’, using 1-2 dribbles and a quick first step to get past defenders.
