Some New Names Surfaced This Weekend At The Gym Rats Invitational

Point Guard Sadie Knee '19 has a very good skill set, which was on display this past weekend in Fort Wayne, IN

6'3" post Annie Yost '17 will be a hot commodity in July

Fort Wayne, IN – The Hoosier state hosted this weekend’s two day Lady Gym Rats Invitational. Many teams were in attendance from all over the country; however the big weekend belonged to the Adidas Gauntlet and Nike EYBL teams who captured all of the platinum championships. Here are the final results of the championship games and some of the players who stood out on both days.

2020

Cheyenne McEvans (#12)  5’7”  Wing   Michigan Storm-Taylor
McEvans athleticism and her ability to defend were on display all weekend. She’s a great rebounder from the wing which was extremely impressive. Cheyenne was most effective slashing to the basket and finishing around the rim.

Gabby Hutchinson (#00)  6’3”  Post  Ohio Hoopsters
Long lanky post with very good athleticism for her age, Gabby is bouncy off of a first and second leap, and runs the floor with energy. Her skill set at this point is right at her age level, she can finish layups around the rim and cause havoc on the defensive end by blocking or altering shots.

Shaulana Wagner (#33)  5’8”  Wing  Michigan Crossover 13u
Probably the toughest kid on her team, Wagner time and time again battled in the paint for rebounds and second chance points just as much as the post players did. She can knock down the twelve foot jump shot but her biggest strength is driving to the basket strong and finishing with and without contact. She is a top notch defender as well.

6'3" post Johnnia Steele '19 is no longer a secret

2019

Johnnia Steele (#31)  6’3”  Post  Michigan Storm-Taylor
Johnnia is a very talented post with a high ceiling if she continues to add and develop her skill set. She was too much for her some of her opponents physically. She has good size, length, and great leaping ability. She’s a good finisher in traffic and likes to bang down low.

Katie McArthur (#24)  5’8”  Guard  1 Nation Elite
A scrappy player that has a very deep range, McArthur was a great addition to 1 Nation’s roster. She plays extremely hard and tries to maximize every second that she has on the court. She fights for loose balls, talks on defense and consistently knocks down the three point shot.

Sadie Knee (#00)  5’7”  Point Guard  Michigan Finest
Knee is a crafty guard that knows how to create offense. She can shoot the ball out to three point range but is best as an attacker off the dribble in the full-court. She capitalized on opportunities where the defense was slow in setting up that led to easy transition points for her teammates.

Amaya Hamilton (#10)  6’1”  Post  Gym Rats-Gold EYBL
Hamilton played very big this weekend. She showed that she’s able get herself open without the ball and position herself to score; facing the basket and posting up. She defended at a high rate and was a powerful rebounder. She runs the court well and finished strong in transition.

2017

Tyeshia Bowers (#10)  5’6”  Combo Guard  Michigan Storm-Love
Bowers is much stronger than she looks and often used her strength to bully her way to the basket. She is a really good on the ball defender, and often gave herself the assignment of guarding the best player on the court. Although driving is her strength, she can knock down the open shot as well.

Leah Sims (#13)  5’5”  Point Guard  X-Citement-Joi
A very consistent shooter and floor leader, Sims did a great job of being a true point guard. She was vocal on both ends of the court and showed great composure during tough games. Leah is a solid shooter, knocking down multiple consecutive three point shots in more than one game.

Michaela Purdue (#13)  6’1”  Post  1 Nation Elite
Purdue has a nice solid frame with quick feet. She is a strong player with her back to the basket but can also shoot twelve foot jumper. Michaela was vocal on the defensive end and did a nice job of altering shots in her area and rebounding.

Anna Yost  (#34)  6’3”  Post  Michigan Crossover EYBL
If ever there was such a thing as “quiet thunder”, Yost would be the perfect example of it. An excellent catch and shoot post player, Anna did a wonderful job of keeping the ball high and kissing it off the glass, over and over again. She has great soft hands and can knock down the 6 footer consistently. She runs the court and fills the lane perfectly in transition.
