A Bay City reporter, who will remain nameless, released a prediction earlier in the week that said John Glenn would not only stay undefeated, but would beat Arbor Prep 51-31...the Gators took that personal. They made that prediction their motivation for tonight’s game and reflected that score or their score board every day in practice. They would make it their mission to make that reporter eat those words.

Arbor Prep would open the first quarter on fire, knocking down 6 three point shots. The Bobcats would still hold their own, scoring 17 points and forcing the Gators to shoot long shots and stopping them from getting in the lane. In the second quarter, both teams would turn up the defense and continue to force each other to depend on things and players that were against their norm. Senior Cassidy Boensch was a dominate force in the paint for the Bobcats, being double teamed often and still managing to finish shots and draw fouls. Going into the half, the Gators would lead by 1, but the score might as well have been 0-0. Both teams were hungry and giving each other their best shots.

Arbor Prep would be haunted by the “Ghost of the 3rd Quarter”, failing to score double digits and allowing John Glenn to take over the game. Big shots from Martinez, Clyde and Brisson, seemed to add gallons of fuel to the Bobcats fire and they would go into the fourth quarter with a 42-37 lead. Refusing to give up, Arbor Prep would get consecutive stops and hit 3 back to back three pointers, including two from Morgan Keeler, to tie the game at 47-47 with 1:42 seconds left in the game. The intensity doubled and both teams would force turnovers and get big steals. At the one minute mark, the Gators attempted to stall for the last shot with the score still tied. The Bobcats only had 3 team fouls and would start to play the foul game whenever the Gators would break the three point perimeter. With 3 seconds left on the clock, Coach Wells would call a time out in an attempt to get one more shot. Arbor Prep would execute the play perfectly, getting Lauryn Carroll open. She would knock down the three at the buzzer; sending the Gators back to Ypsilanti victorious, handing John Glenn their first loss of the season, and making that reporter eat his words.

Leading the way for Arbor Prep was Roh’zane Wells with 15 points, Morgan Keeler with 12 points and Cydney Williams with 11. Boensch would lead all scorers with 16 points and Kalle Martinez would give the Bobcats 14 points.

Game and Team Highlights

Arbor Prep:

  • Relentless is not a strong enough word to describe the Gators play today. They took John Glenn’s best punch and never stopped fighting.

  • This is the best that we have seen Arbor Prep shoot all season. They were on fire, but they were good shots, at great times, in the process of them running their system. Coach Wells should be proud.

Bay City John GLenn:

  • The Bobcats are a tough talented team that will bounce back from this. They are well coached and the necessary adjustments will be made to make their run to the Breslin.

  • John Glenn beat themselves up emotionally and it showed on the court. They have got to find a way to shake of mistakes or “bad calls” and keep playing their game.
