Hartland, Northville & Mercy battled in 3 team Pre Thanksgiving Scrimmage

Northville Scrimmage Recap

Northville, MI – While many people were preparing Thanksgiving dinner on Wednesday night, Northville, Farmington Hills Mercy and Hartland were getting prepared for the upcoming season by participating in the Northville Pre-Thanksgiving Scrimmage. The games were played in two 16 minute halves, which made it feel like a real game atmosphere.

Northville Mustangs

The host team went 2-0 on the day which included a thrilling buzzer beater by Jasmine Prince to defeat Hartland 45-44. The Mustangs, who play in the tough KLAA Conference, will be one of the better teams in the league. Led by 5’11” Jessica Moorman, the Mustangs have a player that can do it all. The junior guard handled the ball and showed great vision by finding her teammates in the open floor. She also made some nice strong finishes and showed a nice perimeter shot from beyond the arc. Northville has a relatively young roster but they played a good 1-3-1 zone defense that will keep opponents off balance during the season.

Hartland Eagles

Hartland went 1-1 on the day but didn’t look bad even in defeat. Junior Lexey Tobel and Sophomore Graysen Cockerham will be the Eagles two headed monster for the entire season. As these two get fired up, so do the Eagles. Hartland uses a lot of screens and good ball movement on the offensive end to get easy and open shots which allows everyone to touch the ball. Defensively, the Eagles played straight man to man both full and half court, which forced a lot of turnovers.

Farmington Hills Mercy Marlins

When you have a player and leading scorer like Taylor Jones to graduate, it is really hard to replace her and continue to be a strong competitor. The Marlins ran a very nice motion offense but struggled to make shots and resulted in them to going 0-2 on the day. The Marlins didn’t make it easy for their opponents as they played a very good half court man to man defense and forced teams to work on every possession. Mercy will get better and they will shock a few teams as the season goes on.
