USJN 2015 Octoberfest Recap

Waukegan, ILThis weekend teams from all over the Midwest participated in the USJN Octoberfest, held at three different cites with the Waukegan Fieldhouse being the headquarters. The 2015 fall evaluation period attracted college coaches from every level and players came ready to compete. With tons of games being played every hour, here are a few players that stood out from the games we got to watch.

Player Tournament Highlights

Kathleen Doyle 2016 5’10” Wing Guard Benet Academy HS (Chicago Express)
Tough, aggressive and great on the ball defense are just a few words that describe Doyle. She was able to handle the ball and play the post. She has great foot work facing the basket and with her back to the basket. She can take her opponents off the dribble easily and because of her strength finish with contact. Doyle was a lot of fun to watch. Verbally Committed To Nebraska

Kyra Bussell, 2017 6’1” Post Grand Rapids Catholic Central HS (West Michigan Titans)
Bussell had a very strong post presence on both ends of the floor. She used her length to alter shots and snatch down rebounds. When she received the ball in the paint, she did a good job of keeping the ball high and getting her shot up quickly. What was most impressive about Kyra was her ability to run the court and finish shots in transition. Verbally Committed To Central Michigan

Paige Hallock 2017 6’1” Post Greenville HS (West Michigan Titans)
Hallock showed that she has been in the gym putting in some work. Her ball handling has improved greatly, she’s able to finish with contact, and her one on one defense has become a little more aggressive. She did a great job helping her team to hold on to the momentum of the game.

Mya Robinson 2017 5’7” Wing Guard Thornton Township HS (Mean Streets)
Mya is a long athletic guard that was able to maneuver through defenders without being touched. She uses her length to keep the ball away from her defenders and to also take the ball when she’s on defense. She was an offensive double threat for her team, driving to the basket and finishing with contact and also showing her stop and pop pull up.

Kayla Brown 2017 5’7” Point Guard Dearborn Heights Robichaud (Lady Gym Rats-Tan)
Brown was a strong force this weekend on the offensive end of the court. She did a great job of mixing up her game and keeping defenders on their heels. She drove to the basket, knocked down the pull up, and got some great passes to her teammates. She also showed off her range by knocking down multiple long range threes from all over the court.

Amaya Hamilton 2019 6’1” Wing Hamilton Southeastern (Lady Gym Rats-Red)
Hamilton is a quick athletic guard with long arms that she uses to her advantage. She was very aggressive on both ends of the court. She went into the paint to put up a lay-up but also to grab rebounds and alter shots. She does a great job running the floor and moving without the ball.

Shaila Beeler 2019 5’5” Point Guard Warren Central (Lady Gym Rats-Red)
Always one of the fastest players on the court, Beeler was able to stay in front of whomever she was guarding. She did a great job of being aggressive on defense without committing a bunch of fouls. She also has great court vision and did a superb job of moving the ball around and finding the open man.

Skylar Leake 5’9” Wing Forward Incarnate Word Academy HS (Knights Academy)
Leake played very hard for every minute she was in the game. She ran the floor, went after loose balls and played hard nose defense. She was also very aggressive on the offensive end, getting in the paint often and also crashing the boards for offensive rebounds. Leake hustled on every possession and let her presence be known on the court.
