Cincinnati, OH – The 11th annual Midwest Showdown, which is hosted by All-Ohio director Jay-Bee Bethea, kicked off this Memorial Day weekend in Cincinnati, OH. Here is a brief recap of some players that had solid performances on Day 1.
Player Highlights
Laya Hartman 2019 5’10” Wing Gym Rats-Gold
Hartman is a nice long athletic player that can handle the ball in transition and has a good first step on the drive. Loves to take defenders off the dribble but she can shoot from the perimeter as well. Very impressed with her poise on the court, as she does not seemed to get rattled at any part of the game.
Cassidy Hardin 2018 5’9” Guard Indiana Flight Thunder
After a slow 1st half in a matchup against All Ohio 15U EYBL, Hardin heated up by making 5 second half three-point shots. She is a pure shooter that has a very quick release that allows her to get her shot off with ease over defenders. She see’s the floor well which allowed her to make to some great passes to teammates for easy scores.
Cam Clegg 2018 5’5" PG All Ohio 15U
Clegg played with poise on the offensive end whether it was setting her teammates up, attacking the basket strong or shooting the mid range pull-up jumper. The athletic built guard has a very solid handle and she will only continue to get better.
Alicia Norman 2017 5’5" PG Michigan Crossover 15U
Norman is a small guard that has a very high basketball IQ. She reads the floor well and made some great passes in transition where she can hit a moving target. She is not afraid to drive into the paint against players that are much bigger than her. She handles the ball well and defensively caused a lot of problems for opponents with her pressure.
Bria Harmon 2019 5’7" PG FBC Young Guns
Harmon had a great day leading her Young Guns team to a 3-0 record in pool play. Her ability to keep her poise under pressure made her standout. She is a lightning quick point guard with great ball handling skills and a high IQ. You could tell that she is a coach's kid.
Jordan Edwards 2018 5’7" PG WPA Bruins Dibble
Edwards did a good job attacking the paint creating plays for herself and her teammates. The Bruins point guard got down and dirty diving after loose balls and doing whatever was needed to give her team a chance to win.
Sydney Pearce 2018 6’3" Post TN Lady Trotters
Sydney did a great job using her body to establish her self in the paint both offensively and defensively. She is a strong post with great hands and a huge upside. Pearce runs the floor and is a pretty good passer out of the high post. At first glimpse I thought she was a polished junior. This freshman has a chance to be great.
Cameron Browning 2019 6’2" Forward Kentucky Premier Cann
Browning was very active today and showed that she can play the 3-5. She is a great young athlete that rebounds and can defend the wing and the post. Her shot blocking and her ability to step out and knock down three pointers was impressive.
